Jason Theodosiou was born in Cyprus in 1959. He studied Chemistry in Marseilles and developed most of his career in the scientific information industry. In 2016 he decided to create his own artistic activity and he now works as a sculptor at his workshop at Châtenay-Malabry near Paris.
During the last ten years Jason has had the opportunity to prepare his reconversion by attending several art workshops, in order to create his own artistic activity. At the workshops of the Roland Court at Jouy en Josas, at "Terre et Feu" in Paris and at the art school of Fresnes, he learned to master the technics of ceramics, modeling, painting and engraving.
As a sculptor, he works on the principle of duality and opposition. His forms are elaborated from this research: Organic / inorganic, real / fantastic, figurative / abstract. I explore shapes and materials without barriers: ceramics, plasters, resins, stone, and raku.
His goal is to reach a point where the form transcends the story he tells. This approach leads him to take an interest in myths and metamorphoses and in particular to the Greek mythology that nourishes our imagination and our unconscious with legends often populated by hybrid beings on the borders of the animal, mineral and vegetable worlds.
Beyond the agreed and known representations (series of Minotaurs, Ulysses), he lets go of what fascinates him and belongs also to his universe, the archaic arts and the primitive arts.
His project "Myths and metamorphoses" is an important step. He uses a combination of modeling techniques, ceramics and the RAKU firing technic that he experiences in his workshop.
At this point he focuses on three themes: myths and the minotaur, totemic stacks and biomorphic structures.
